1969 ALL OVER AGAIN? JOE BENINGO SAYS A JETS SUPER BOWL IS “NOW IN THE REALM OF POSSIBILITY”

Joe Beningo, Mets and Jets fans favorite glass half empty radio personality was asked “Now That Johan Santana Threw The First Mets No No, Can a Jets Super Bowl Actually Happen? ”It is now in the realm of possibility,” Beningo said today on WFAN.

Hearing those words coming from the mouth of Beningo was no small feat. Santana throwing a no hitter in a Mets uniform was even more improbable. So what gives? Is another collectively historic year for the Shea Stadium twins on the way?

In January of 1969, the Jets upset the Colts to capture Super Bowl III. The Mets followed that miracle with a not to be believed title of their own in October of the same year, knocking off the big bad Orioles in 5. Astronauts even landed on the moon for the first time that summer.

Santana’s no hitter was a moon landing of it’s own for the Mets.

Maybe Friday night’s gem for the ages is the start of a second Met-Jet tag team, this time with the Mets leading the way. Hey, crazier things have happened.

Forty three years ago in fact.
